SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Housing prices in the San Diego region increased by double digits last month compared to the same period in 2012, according to data released Wednesday by a realtors group.

The San Diego Association of Realtors' figures showed big jumps in both prices and the number of property sales in January compared to the same month last year.

Last week The Economist conducted an online debate on the question “Do multinational corporations have a duty to maintain a strong presence in their home countries?” After a very intense written debate between Harry Moser, former president of GF AgieCharmilles and founder of the Reshoring Initiative, and Jagdish Bhagwati, professor of economics and law at Columbia University, the vote was 54 percent “yes” and 46 percent “no.”

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego's housing prices increased 0.9 percent between October and November and rose 8 percent since November 2011, according to the Standard and Poor's Case-Shiller Home Price Indices released Tuesday.

The annual jump was well above the national average of the nation's 20 largest real estate markets. The prices climbed at a faster rate for the year in only six other metropolitan areas.

County unemployment rate 8.1 percent in December PDF Print E-mail

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The unemployment rate in San Diego County was 8.1 percent last month, down from a revised 8.4 percent in November and well below the 9 percent figure from December 2011, the state Employment Development Department announced Friday.

That compares with unemployment rates of 9.7 percent in California and 7.6 percent nationwide. Those figures are not seasonally adjusted.
